Verena Talos is one of the best heroes from the Return To Hoth Expansion box. Her strengths include extremely defensive, a focus on attacks, getting additional attacks, and recovering damage. Her weaknesses include lack of speed and mediocre results on attribute tests.

Build #1
When beginning to examine builds for Verena, you will want to get both a range and a melee weapon. While she comes with Military Blaster and Fighting Knife, neither of these weapons are good long-term weapons. I like to get her Disruption Pistol with Tactical Display. You can pick Tactical Display up early and attach it to your Military Blaster. Then, when you reach Tier 3, you can switch over to the Disruption Pistol.
So, why is Disruption Pistol the best option for Verena. Simply, she has Point Blank Shot. This will allow her to roll red-red while attacking an adjacent figure. Additionally, she can exhaust Tactical Display to gain surge to three damage. Yes, the ceiling on this two die attack is 9 damage with Pierce 1. This weapon is consistent and will serve you well throughout. I would not keep Fighting knife and sell it for 50 credits.
Additionally, for some basic defense, I would add Improvised Cover. This would allow Verena to be a offensive and defensive powerhouse for a small investment.
Totals: 1000 credits, 6 XP
Build #2
Verena is also one of the best recovery heroes in the game and this build will emphases that. I would only run Verena in the configuration if you are running two heroes and therefore have legendary for extra health. First, I would get her Improvised Cover and Point Blank Shot for some standard defensive and offensive capabilities. Then, I would add Master Operative, Environmental Recovery Gear and Cybernetic Arm.
Next, you really need to win Verena's side mission and gain the reward card Iron Hand. This will allow you to recover up to three strain at the end of your activation. This is even more recovery and will make you really hard to pin damage on.
So, all and all, you could rest twice and use Iron Hand (to maximum capacity w/o having to recover strain) to recover a grand total of 19 damage in one activation or 8 damage in one action. This is crazy and will make you the most hated hero by the Imperial player (literally they'll hate you).
Totals: 950 credits 10 XP
Build #3
I haven't talked about Verena's first ability Close Quarters at all. And that's because it takes a lot of build around. You need to invest 7 XP to make it really worth your time. But, this build is going to make Close Quarters incredible. First, begin with Improvised Cover for defensive power. Then get Master Operative, Combat Momentum and Student of Battle. Master Operative will let you get focused while you Close Quarters, Combat Momentum will allow you to get into a better position to attack with Close Quarters and Student of Battle will give you great surges for your dice. This will allow Close Quarters to be as effective as possible.
As for Item Cards, I would get Double Vibrosword. With the strain ability at the bottom of the card you will be able to get damage on many different targets. This will allow you to trigger Close Quarters more.
So, there you have it. When an adjacent unit is defeated, you will be able to attack with their weapon with great surges and an extra green die. This can really turn the tide of a battle if you have just defeated the AT-ST and now have to take out another unit.
Total: 650 Credits 10XP
