Mak is a sniper/spy for the Rebel Alliance and one of the most fun heroes to play. He has very flashy gameplay and for casual play, I recommend him.

First, before we get into builds, I just want to go over Mak's hero sheet. 10 health is low, but the 5 endurance is nice for a flashy hero. He has a standard 4 speed and a white defense die. His abilities are Ambush and Covert and they work nicely together. He wants to be away from other units for both his attack and his defenses. He has really strong attributes, and is solid on fist and insight with an amazing blue-green-yellow tech.
Build #1
This build is going to focus on making Mak an offensive powerhouse. First, I'll get No Escape. This will allow him to take some strain to attack twice. Next, I'll replace his okay Longblaster and get the A-12 Sniper Rifle. This will allow him to hit from long range and take out the annoying dodge result with a surge. To combo with this, I'll take Target Acquired. I normally don't like this card, but with all of the accuracy we'll be getting from the sniper rifle, it would be nice to ignore figures while drawing line of sight. Finally, I would get one of his best class cards, Jeswandi Training.

Build #2
This build is going to focus on Mak's amazing attributes. I would use this build if your team needs someone to interact with speed and consistency. I would begin by getting his best card for this, Expertise. This will allow him to basically perform a free interact action and is super useful in various scenarios. For example, you could interact with a crate without using an action, or interact with a terminal 3 times in one activation. Next, to up his survivability and speed, I would get Disengage. I would also add Mandalorian Helmet to get him some rerolls. Lastly, I would add Jeswandi Training for the extra health and to get him focused for attribute tests. This is not a recommended build unless your team is really lacking in this respect. For the most part, Mak is best as a damage hero - not a support. Nevertheless, this light build makes him the best at interacting in all of Imperial Assault.

Build #3
For this last build, I'm going to load Mak up with some of his best upgrades and make him the hero he really wants to be. First, I'll start with his two best upgrades, Jeswandi Training and Disengage. These will make him survivable and hard to hit. Then, I'll get No Escape and Decoy to make him not only defensive but an offensive powerhouse. Again, I would outfit him with the A-12 Sniper Rifle and give him Target Acquired. I would also add Sniper Scope because Mak will do too many attacks for Tactical Display and he really wants to attack from that range anyway. I know this is a really heavy build, but it's a good one. Mak will be ducking and dodging your opponent. In my opinion, Mak is one of the best designed heroes and is one of my favorites.

P.S.
I normally don't do this, but I want to talk about a combination of heroes that really benefits Mak. Loku Kanoloa has a class card called Scouting Report. This card allows you to place a recon token on a crate. Any hero that interacts with that crate, may do so without using an action. Now if you read the text on Expertise, you'll see that Mak can pull of something amazing. He can interact with a crate (that Loku put a recon token on) and gain an action. This means, if you work it out correctly, you could have Mak interact with a crate and then shoot 3 times. This is so good and I just wanted to point this out in this review.
